The MOUNTAIN series shows the four superior functions on the left (the Sunny Side with the Sun above), and the four inferior functions on the right (the Shady Side with the Moon above). This comes from the old idea of yin-yang, translated sometimes as the sunny (yang) side and shady (yin) side of the mountain. You can see that the most favored functions (superior) are on the left (sunny side), and the least favored functions (inferior) are on the right (shady side). The #1 favorite function is at the base of the sunny side of the mountain, and the #1 least favorite function is at the base of the shady side of the mountain.
